End of Year Letter 2021

End of Year Letter 2021

June 4, 2021

Dear KGBSD Parents and Guardians,

With the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year, I wanted to personally thank you for everything that you have done to help your student get through this year. I know that this year has been tremendously difficult for all of you. From the occasional but necessary school closures and remote learning to 50-50 capacity days, you have given so much this year to help us keep going. I appreciate your trust in us—the District, your school, and staff—to keep your student safe. We made it through this year together only because of your support, understanding, and adaptability. Thank you!!

We are already looking ahead to a better year next year and have started planning to make that happen. As part of this planning process, I would like to invite you to give your input as we adjust the COVID safety procedures for the 2021-22 school year. Our District Smart Start 2021 Team will be updating our plan based on the latest safety recommendations.

Please consider joining us in the Ketchikan High School Library on August 10th for a first reading of the Team’s recommendations. Parents will be asked and encouraged to give input at this meeting, as well as at the second reading of the plan on August 11th. More details and reminders will come as we get closer to those dates, so please stay tuned.

I am excited to announce that on June 7th the District will once again be offering the Summer Food Program to all children ages 18 and younger. “Grab-n-go” meals will be provided for pick-up on Mondays-Fridays at each of the following schools and times:

  • Schoenbar Middle School - 9:00am-1:00pm
  • Fawn Mountain Elementary – 9:30am-1:30pm
  • Houghtaling Elementary – 9:30am-1:30pm
  • Point Higgins Elementary – 10:00am-1:30pm

Please contact Katie Jo Parrott at (907) 247-2116 for more information.
