Welcome to Ms. Burnett's web pageDear parents,Kindergarten "Zoom" get togethers are happening Monday-Friday, at 10:00 a.m. I have been sending out "Zoom" meeting invitations to parent's email addresses (from PHE powerschool). If you are not receiving these invitations, please email me at patricia.burnett@k21schools.org If any of your contact information (email, phone number, physical address, etc.) has changed, please notify Laurie Northrup at laurie.northrup@k21schools.org and she will make the contact information changes in powerschool. That way, you will receive all the up to date information from Point Higggins Elementary/Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District. Thank you very much:)Welcome parents and students,The hardest part of this "safe-distancing" is not seeing your child's smiling, happy faces each day and not being able to hear all the clever things they have to say. Your children make me laugh...so I miss them very much. I hope this is over soon and we can all be together again. In the meantime, please check out Ms. Burnett's "Interesting web resources" for fun, educational things to do. And, don't forget the district website (KGBSD). It has many activities for kindergarteners to do (math, language arts, social studies and science). If anyone doesn't have a computer, please fill out the form to get one while supplies last (on the district website) . Also, some internet carriers are providing free wifi or free upgrades (for a limited time) - see the district website for details. Please take care of yourselves during this time and do what is best for you and your families.Be well,Ms. Burnett:)Welcome parents and students,I hope you are all well. I miss you all! Please know that I think of your child every day. The district is working on a new way to deliver educational and fun activities to students. Educators are spending this week and next week working with the district to figure it all out. Please take care of yourselves during this time and do what is best for you and your families.Be well,Ms. Burnett:)For now, if you are looking for something for your child to do while at home, here is a website with 2 weeks worth of fun learning (just click on the link below):At school, Kindergarteners wrote in their journals every day (they draw a picture and write about it)...they can still do this at home...any piece of paper will do (don't worry about spelling! Just let them be creative.). Your kindergarteners are smart, let them practice any skill they have learned at school and show you:)Also, check out Ms. Burnett's "Interesting web resources" for more fun things to do (Epic books, Discovery Education, etc).Previous events:Valentines Day: February 14, 2020Winter concert: December 13, 2019, 2:00p.m.Holiday Break: December 23 - January 5...NO SCHOOL.Return to school on January 6, 2020.SNOWMANThis year, Point Higgins Kindergarten will be creating a "Snowman Land," in our hallway. Welcome To Kindergarten!
August 29, 2019
Dear Families,
I am so happy to be your child’s kindergarten teacher for the upcoming
school year. Kindergarten is a milestone year for you and your child. In
previous years, kindergarten teachers were able to meet their students and
families during the first two days of school and do some assessment of their
skills. Our district’s policy changed and kindergarten students begin the year
on either August 23 or August 24. We will have a “Rolling Start” for
kindergarten students. Half of my class will start on August 23 (stay home
on the 24) and the other half will start on August 24 (stay home the 23 of
August). The kindergarten class, as a whole, will begin attending, everyday,
on Monday, August 27.
On the day that your child will start (either the 23 or 24) I would like to
meet with families and their children the first half hour of school. I will give
the families a tour of the classroom, collect school supplies, help families fill
out a transportation tag, and discuss homework.
August 29, from 6-7 pm, we will have an open house at Point Higgins. At
this time I will go over the kindergarten handbook, behavior system, and
answer questions regarding kindergarten.
On the first day of school please bring:
1. School supplies- All students please bring: a two-pocket homework
folder (label with student’s name), Crayola colored pencils, Crayola
crayons (24), Crayola washable markers, Crayola watercolor paint
set, 3 large glue sticks, pencil top erasers, and TICONDEROGA
wooden pencils.
Boys bring: paper plates, sandwich sized zip lock bags, 1 pkg. sponges
Girls bring: gallon sized zip lock bags, 1 container of Clorox wipes, and
1 box of tissues
2. Tennis shoes for P.E. (label with student’s name)
3. Ba`ckpack (label with student’s name)
4. Dishwasher safe water bottle (label with student’s name)
5. Knowledge of your child’s bus number for going home from school as
we will be filling out a transportation tag to put on your child’s
backpack.
Please contact the bus company so that they know they are to pick and
drop off your child. They do not drop them off at your home as they
may have done in preschool. There are designated bus stops and the bus
company needs to know where your child will be getting on and off. The
bus company’s number is 225-3806.
The school day begins at 8:45 and ends at 3:15.
The students who will be attending school on August 29 are: Students with
last names beginning with A-M.
The students who will be attending school on August 30 are: Students with
last names beginning with N-Z.
If that day does not work for you please call our school secretary and
reschedule for the other day. Our secretary is Laurie Northrup and she will
have a master list. Our school phone number is 247-1500.
Thank you and welcome to kindergarten!
Patricia Burnett
