Hello! My name is Peter Stanton and I love being a teacher in Ketchikan.
During the 2021-2022 school year I will be teaching Indigenous History (first semester), Alaska Studies (both semesters), and AP World History (yearlong). Please see the individual pages in the sidebar for more details about these courses.
I graduated from Kayhi in 2009, and it is an honor to be able to teach at my alma mater. I earned my bachelor's degree in history from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and I also studied abroad at the Université de Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France. I then earned a master's degree in teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast and began teaching at the Ketchikan Indian Community Tribal Scholars Program. I worked with the Tribal Scholars Program for five years before becoming a full-time teacher at Kayhi in 2019.
Some of my hobbies include learning languages (especially Lingít) and playing with my cat Freya. (Check out her Instagram!) I also love coaching Kayhi's highly successful Academic Decathlon team—the 2018 Alaska champions and Division III national champions. I was a decathlete myself during all four of my years at Kayhi, and I've been coach since 2014.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my teaching or coaching!
