Hello! Wáa sá i yatée? (How are you?) My name is Peter Stanton and I love being a teacher in Ketchikan.
I teach math and social studies at the Tribal Scholars Program, which means that I work at the KIC building on Stedman Street every morning during 1st-4th period. I then come to Kayhi every afternoon to teach geometry during 5th and 6th period.
I graduated from Kayhi in 2009, and there are still nine of my former teachers on staff! After Kayhi, I attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Then I earned a master's degree from UAS while working as a student teacher with Mrs. Stone, Mr. Stockhausen, and now-Representative Dan Ortiz.
Some of my hobbies include learning languages (especially Lingít) and playing with my cat Freya. (Check out her Instagram!) I also love coaching Kayhi's highly successful Academic Decathlon team—the 2018 Alaska champions and Division III national champions. I was a decathlete myself during all four of my years at Kayhi, and I've been coach since 2014.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my teaching or coaching!
