In Middle School Language Arts,  students will improve their reading and writing skills through a variety of activities and projects. We read a wide range of classic and contemporary novels, plays, short stories, memoirs, poems, and essays, by diverse authors such as Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Frank, Maya Angelou, George Orwell, and William Shakespeare. Students will learn to read literature for literary elements and theme, as well as fluency and comprehension. Our writing projects cover many skills and genres, including literature response, persuasive rhetoric, and expository writing, along with creative stories and poetry. It is my goal that students learn to think critically and to read analytically, while learning how to clearly communicate their ideas and reasoning.
