ASHA Certified Speech/Language Pathologist
Greetings, welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! The KGBSD speech pathologists (SLPs) continue to evaluate new referrals while implementing existing programs. I provide communication support services to students with speech, language, and/or hearing needs at Ketchikan High School, Revilla Alternative School, Ketchikan Charter School, Tongass School of Arts and Sciences, and Fast Track. We are continuing to implement a modified 3:1 service delivery model to provide comprehensive services to students, support to school staff, and facilitate communication between school and home. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s communication program, please feel free to contact me. I am enjoying working with all of my students this year!
The Speech/Language/Hearing Impaired program in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School district provides services to students with moderate to severe communication disorders who meet the eligibility requirements for Special Education as Speech Impaired (SI) specified in Federal and Alaska State regulations. The district employs four ASHA Certified/Highly Qualified SLPs who deliver communication services to our students and their families. Students who do not qualify for a Special Education SI program but need support may be served under an Early Intervening Service plan, Section 504, or the Response to Intervention (RTI) program. Contact your child’s school for more information.
When/How to Refer:
District schools have formed Intervention Teams consisting of the principal, teachers, and specialists who devise a plan to provide support to students who have suspected needs in communication and/or other areas. If you have concerns about a student, please contact the school office and they will notify the team of the concerns. A school representative will contact you regarding the proposed plan for your child.
