Hello! My name is Michael Cron and I am pleased to be your Principal at Houghtaling Elementary School.
I’m a second-generation educator who before entering entering into administration for the last decade taught World History, AP World History and AP European History at Ketchikan High School. I’ve always been interested in educational innovation, particularly project-based learning, and how to build strong collaborative relationships amongst staff. I’m excited with the opportunities we have to build on the successes of Houghtaling and to make an amazing educational experience for all the students in our care!
Before becoming a teacher, I attended law school at the University of Colorado, Boulder and spent some time as a real estate agent. I hold a B.A. in History from Linfield College and an M.Ed in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska, Southeast. My wife Julie, also a second-generation educator, teaches music and technology at Ketchikan Charter School. Our eldest daughter Sophie will be in 9th grade this year and is very excited to be in Senior Company with Ketchikan Theatre Ballet. Our daughter Greta will be in 3rd grade and is very excited to be beating you at cribbage. Beyond work, I enjoy reading, cooking, playing board games, practing trumpet, and traveling. I excel at living out of a backpack for months on end.
Houghtaling is a school where we focus on providing excellent opportunities of learning to help your child become the very best version of themselves while maintaining a safe, fair, and respectful environment for all. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or ideas on how to make our school even better, please do not hesitate to contact me.
