Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. (Stephanie) Johnson
Hello! My name is Stephanie Johnson and I am a Special Education teacher here at Pt. Higgins. This year, my caseload of kiddos consists primarily of students with intensive needs and/or challenging behavior.
While this is my first year as a resource teacher, I have about 10 years' experience working with youth and individuals with disabilities. The past two years, I taught inclusive preschool at Pt. Higgins. Prior to teaching, I coordinated and facilitated Teen Leadership programs for the YMCA of Greater Seattle, helped manage a group home for foster youth experiencing emotional/behavioral concerns due to trauma backgrounds, and was a Services and Care Coordinator for youth and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
My undergraduate degree (B.A) is in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations, which I got from Washington State University (Go COUGS!). I received my Master of Arts in Teaching, Special Education degree from the University of Alaska Southeast. I was also fortunate to have had the opportunity to complete the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Program through the University of Alaska Anchorage's Center for Human Development while getting my Master's. This program focused on creating interdisciplinary opportunities and support specifically for kiddos experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorders, or closely related disabilities.
Currently, I am pursuing my Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification (Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA), also through the University of Alaska Anchorage's Center for Human Development (Capacity Building for Autism Interventions program) and Florida Institute of Technology.
I look forward to working with your students this school year! If you have any questions, comments, concerns or just because...please feel free to contact me!
