The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District is dedicated to providing support and resources to our military students, families, and organizations. The district understands the difficult transition students and their families face when coming to Ketchikan and would like to work together as a team to make that transition as seamless as possible. We understand that this transition is one of the most difficult times in a military family’s life and would like to assist during this chaotic time. Helps military children cope with being transferred from school to school around the world.
Military and DoD Child Care Assistance
Child Care Aware® of America partners with the United States Military and Department of Defense to serve and support their families through the Fee Assistance and Respite Child Care Programs.
Military and Veteran Families Support
ZERO TO THREE has developed resources specially designed for military and veteran families and the professionals who serve them. This includes tools for parents to use as they navigate the many transitions that are a part of military-connected life.
Life for military kids is full of ups and downs. From adventure and unique experiences, to frequent moves and family adjustments – you may face challenges that your friends at school don’t know anything about. Making connections with other military kids can help you build resilience and find friends who understand your life.
Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)
Regulations - Enrollment in the EFMP is mandatory for active duty service members who have dependent family members with ongoing medical, mental health, or special educational needs.

Advocacy - Provides information on the Interstate Compact and what to expect when transferring to a new location.
