Amy began working as an RTI teacher in 2016. She taught Kindergarten for a year and began working as a RTI again in 2018. She really enjoys working with classroom teachers and families to help students make academic gains.
In 2000, Amy received her Associate of Arts with an emphasis in art history and literature from Minnesota State Community and Technical College. She continued her education in language and literature at North Dakota State University before returning to Alaska in 2006. She began working in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District as a English Language Learner paraprofessional in 2012. In 2016, she received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Alaska Southeast. Presently, she is working on her M.Ed. Reading Specialist degree from the University of Alaska with an expected graduation date of fall 2021.
Amy grew up in the KGBSD school system. She attended White Cliff Elementary, Schoenbar Middle School and Ketchikan High School. She is thrilled that her two boys, Alec and Eli, are also able to experience the same educational experiences. She enjoys reading, hiking, camping, kayaking and gardening.
