Meet the Teachers
My name is Brooke Hunt and I have been a teacher at Fawn Mountain since our school opened. I absolutely love being a teacher, but my all-time favorite job in life is being a mom. I’m a veteran teacher with over 20 years of experience in fourth, fifth and sixth grade.
I come from a teaching family and am a fourth generation teacher. Ketchikan has been my home for about 50 years and I have no plans to leave, ever. Gillian Edwards and I are amazingly compatible co-teachers and we’re so excited to be teaching your children!
I am delighted to be teaching 4th grade English Language Arts with Ms. Hunt at Fawn Mountain Elementary.
I was born in Madison, Wisconsin and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. I attended Indiana University in Bloomington, earning my bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Political Science. I earned my teaching certificate through the University of Alaska, Southeast and will complete the Masters program in the spring of 2020.
In 2003, I moved to Alaska for a summer kayaking job. I have called Ketchikan home ever since. My husband and I still spend our summers on the water teaching kayaking. We have twin boys in 8th grade at Schoenbar, a terrier named Ripley, and a bearded dragon named Beardie. As a family we love to spend time outdoors kayaking, camping and hiking. During the winter we enjoy coaching and playing indoor soccer.
I began my teaching life as a substitute teacher for the Ketchikan School District in 2007. I have worked in classrooms from preschool to 12th grade but the middle grades are my favorite. Reading, writing, science and art are my favorite subjects. What I love most about teaching is the interaction with students: hearing their thoughts and ideas and seeing them grow as they learn.
I hope that you will stop by the classroom soon!
