Special Services

Ketchikan School District wishes to inform the community of their efforts to appropriately identify and serve children with special needs in free special education programming. Disabilities which may qualify a child for special education services are: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, health impairment, speech impairment, deafness, blindness, autism, orthopedic impairment, traumatic brain injury, preschool disabilities, and multiple disabilities. Children thought to have special needs that affect their ability to learn may be referred for an evaluation by parents or by school staff. This evaluation, along with family and school input will be used to determine eligibiilty for services.
